Jeffrey Wright Delivers Stirring Tribute To His Family At 2024 Spirit Awards
Jeffrey Wright's family means the world to him.
The 2023 drama film "American Fiction" continues to captivate audiences honed by a star-studded cast featuring Wright. On Sunday (Feb. 25), he won a Spirit Award for his portrayal of Thelonious “Monk” Ellison in the film. While accepting his award, he delivered an emotional speech while recognizing his family, as reported by PEOPLE.
Before his moving moment, Wright thanked his on-screen family, including Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, Erika Alexander, Tracee Ellis Ross, along with the film's screenwriter Cord Jefferson, who won the Spirit Award for best screenplay earlier in the evening.
After that, he took things up a notch and acknowledged his family, including his son who was in the audience.
“My son is here, Elijah, I love you,” he said, as cameras cut to his son.
"You and your sister and my family are the sun around which I orbit. I am nowhere without you,” he continued while Elijah became visibly emotional.
Before winning his award, the father-son duo posed on the event's blue carpet for photos. Elijah has also accompanied his famous dad on press events for the film and Wright's other 2023 drama "Asteroid City." His daughter Juno also shows her support for him on red carpets.
Last year, the trio were in France for the Cannes Film Festival.
