'I Live By It Now': Jamie Foxx Reveals His New Mantra After 2023 Health Scare
Jamie Foxx is embracing life with a renewed perspective following his 2023 medical scare. On Tuesday (Nov. 12), the actor took to Instagram to share the motto that now guides him: "No bad dayz."
"This is my mantra… After surviving something that I thought I would never go through," Foxx wrote. He credited his manager and close friend, James, for introducing the phrase. “ My good friend James, who also happens to be my manager, gave me this phrase… I live by it now,” he added.
Foxx’s health emergency occurred in April 2023 while filming the Netflix movie “Back in Action” in Atlanta. Reflecting on the experience, he wrote, "When you come through the darkness, the light looks brighter… and while I’m at it, I want to say thank you to everyone who sent up a prayer… I needed it."
The 56-year-old plans to open up further about his health scare in his upcoming Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was...,” premiering Dec. 10. In his post, he encouraged followers to check out the special, writing, “And if you need a spiritual tuneup right now. Take a listen to commissioned TIS SO SWEET DECEMBER 10th 'what had happened was' @netflix @netflixisajoke.”
Foxx filmed his first comedy special in 18 years during a series of October shows in Atlanta. On Oct. 14, he expressed his gratitude to the city in an Instagram post, writing, “I have to thank you Atlanta you showed up and you showed out. I haven’t been on stage in 18 years but I needed the stage and I needed an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that’s what you were.”
The Oscar winner clarified the special’s tone, saying, “When people ask me is this a stand up comedy show I say 'No it’s an artistic explanation.'"
