French Fashion Magazine L’Officiel Magazine Declares: Black Beauty Matters
Fall is right around the corner and with that comes the coveted releases of the September magazines. Thankfully, one French mag is using their upcoming issue to make an empowering statement: Black Beauty Matters.
L’Officiel Magazine’s September cover snatched up all the melanin and put it on display front and center. This squad, which is giving us the best the Diaspora has to offer, includes Ciara, Iman, Ajak Deng, Grace Boi, Riley Montana, Adesuwa Aighewi, Maria Borges and Anais Mali. Shot by photographer famed fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth, the pictorial spread shows an incredible spectrum of Black beauty that is so often ignored.
In her editor’s letter, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Marie-José Susskind-Jalou, writes, “For this issue, we wanted to incarnate, L’Officiel has given carte blanche to Jenke Ahmed Tailly, [who works with starts from] Beyoncé to Kanye West and his prodigal talent of style.”
Most important, the beauties look like they were having a blast on set! Model Riley Montana posted this video yesterday on Instagram.
We love to see this kind of joy and celebration and we commend L’Officiel for displaying the amazing diversity that Black beauty embodies. Hopefully other publications are paying close attention.
