African American Film Critics Association Unveils Winners of 6th Annual AAFCA TV Honors

The ceremony will take place Aug. 24 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.

Black Hollywood shined bright at the 6th annual African American Film Critics Association TV Honors, presented by the African American Film Critics Association.

Black Twitter: A People’s History, The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri, and more took home wins at the annual ceremony celebrating distinguished achievements in television and streaming. 

Legendary actor Glynn Turman, best known for his work in shows including A Different World and The Wire and in films such as Cooley High, Rustin, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, was honored with the Legacy Award. Actress and comedian Michelle Buteau, who recently became the first Black woman to record a comedy special at Radio City Music Hall, was presented with the Trailblazing Award.

The ceremony will take place Aug. 24 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.  In the meantime, check out the list of winners below.

BEST TV COMEDY – Unprisoned

BEST TV DIRECTING – Channing Godfrey Peoples (Genius: MLK/X – Episode 401 “Graduation)

BEST TV DRAMA – The Chi

BEST WRITING – The Bear

BREAKOUT STAR – Josiah Cross (Masters of the Air)

Special achievement honorees are: 

Salute to Excellence Award – Nkechi Okoro Carroll. 

Impact Award – Starz’ Power Universe

Ally Award – Tubi
