Vice President Kamala Harris Drops Kendrick Lamar ‘Not Like Us’ Reference

The VP is serious about getting people out to vote!

Kendrick Lamar’s impact continues after Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to make a reference to the West Coast emcee’s now-infamous diss track against Drake during her remarks on the significance of voting in a video broadcast on Sunday night at the BET Awards 2024.

In the prerecorded segment aired that evening, Harris was shown answering a video call from actress and ceremony host Taraji P. Henson. During their conversation, Henson expressed her concerns about the upcoming election, highlighting issues such as women's reproductive rights and the Supreme Court's pivotal role, emphasizing that “our basic freedoms are being tested.”

When the Golden Globe winner questioned her campaign trail observations, Harris responded, “Let me tell you, you’re right, Taraji, there is so much at stake in the moment."

“The majority of us believe in freedom and equality. But these extremists, as they say, they’re ‘not like us,’”

Harris remarked, prompting Henson to add, “They not.”

Kendrick’s single was mentioned quite a few times throughout the evening. Henson performed a spoof of Kendrick’s performance at "The Pop-Out: Ken and Friends" on Juneteenth. Wearing a red hoodie and jeans, the actress revamped the song,  changing the lyrics from “They Not Like Us” to “This About Us.”
