UPDATE (3/31/17, 10:00 a.m.): 

After what appeared to be a post-jail photo of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rap star Kevin Gates hit the internet, hope was restored in his status as a free man amid felony weapon charges in Chicago. Unfortunately, however, that small slice of freedom was short lived as TMZ now reports that Gates is being held at Cook County jail in Illinois following his six-month sentence in Florida. 

As previously reported, Gates must face the separate charges after a warrant for his arrest came about just as he was nearing the end of his Polk County jail stay. Though several sources claimed that he would be extradited to the Chicago jail, the photo that was captured on Wednesday (March 29) was actually of his ride on the way to turn himself in, TMZ reports. Gates reportedly was a no show on two occasions for the charges stemming from 2013, consequently causing an outstanding number of bench warrants.

TMZ adds that Gates will be held without bond up until his next April court date.

When news of an extended jail stay for Kevin Gates surfaced on the day he was set to be released from a six-month bid, the disappointment was reasonably deep for fans, friends and family alike.

But after an unidentified individual flicked a photo of the “2 Phones” rapper at an unlikely location, given his reported jail transfer to Illinois, hope may be restored for BWA fans everywhere.

In the picture, Gates is reportedly on a train alone while seated next to a window. He seems to be remaining low key with what appears to be some of his belongings in a brown paper bag near his feet and somewhat isolated from the photographing fan. The surprise sighting comes just days after a new development in his case caused him to be held and extradited to Cook County to face felony weapon charges.

In Dreka Gates’s statement, the Baton Rouge rap star’s wife, she released little information on when fans could expect Gates to be home, but still assured them that it was only a matter of time before things would be looking up for her husband. While it’s also possible that he was granted bail amid the additional charges, the hope now is that Gates can settle the remainder of his legal woes once and for all.
