[Watch] Kevin Durant Has Words for Mark Cuban
If Russell Westbrook isn't an NBA superstar, who is?
For some inexplicable reason, Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was hesitant to label Westbrook a superstar before the Mavs took on the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series Monday night.
Westbrook then proceeded to drop 36 points, grab 12 rebounds and dish nine assists to help the Thunder eliminate Cuban's Mavs. Change of heart, Mark?
But when an ESPN reporter approached Westbrook with Cuban's thoughts, Thunder teammate Kevin Durant stepped in and gave his two cents about the billionaire owner on Russ's behalf.
HA! Can you blame KD for calling Cuban an idiot? Seriously...how is Westbrook NOT one of the best top five players in the NBA right now?
And it's crazy because Mark Cuban knows the game of basketball and knows better than to say something so far from the truth.
His reasoning was a stretch, too, as he attempted to explain why he thinks Westbrook is an All-Star, but not a superstar.
"You look at [Mavs' star] Dirk [Nowitzki] all those years to now, he carries teams to 50 wins. To me, that's [what makes a superstar]...when [you're] by yourself...it wasn't until we got J-Kidd [Jason Kidd] that we had another Hall of Famer. So, to go the 15 years where Dirk won 50, that's a superstar," Cuban told The Oklahoman prior to Game 5. "There's only a few guys that you put them on any team and they'll win 50 games. To me that's the definition of a superstar."
He added, “Russell’s certainly an All-Star, but I consider Durant a superstar."
Leading your team to 50 wins as the lone star of the squad is the sole definition of a superstar? Russ nearly averaged a triple-double this season, Mark. Cut that out.
Something tells us this has more to do with Westbrook's pre-game dancing routine than anything else.
The Thunder clearly have two superstars with Durant and Westbrook. Trust, if the Mavs owner doesn't acknowledge it, Mavs' fans do.
