Women's History Month: Walgreens CEO Rosalind Brewer Sets The Standard As A Boss Business Woman
If there were a poster child for boss businesswomen, it would be Rosalind Brewer. The CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance is just one of two Black women at the helm of a Fortune 500 company. Before joining the C-suite at the retail pharmacy giant, the Spelman College grad sat in the executive office at Kimberly-Clark, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Starbucks — making history in each role.
“My generation is what one might call ‘Generation P,’ and that P is for perseverance— we’ve had the job of keeping the fires that our grandmothers and mothers fought for, lived for, died for – alive,” Brewer said during Spelman's 2018 commencement address.
A native of Detroit, Brewer, has sat on the board of several philanthropic and professional organizations, including serving as board chair at her undergraduate alma mater. In this role, Brewer instituted the Rosalind Gates Brewer Scholarship, making it possible for first-generation college students, like herself, to receive financial assistance while in pursuit of their education.
The wife and mother is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also a graduate of The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Stanford School of Law Directors’ College.
