Beyoncé’s ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ Takes the Number One Spot On Billboard Hot 100
Beyoncé has done it again.
According to Billboard, after debuting at number two last week, “Texas Hold ‘Em”, her first foray into country music, has landed at the number one spot on the Billboard 100 chart. The song became Beyoncé’s ninth number-one hit and her first since “Break My Soul” topped the chart in 2022. She is the first Black woman to have a country song to top the Hot 100.
Last week, Beyoncé made history when “Texas Hold ‘Em ” went to number one on the multimetric Hot Country Songs, making her the first woman to debut at the top spot on the chart.
Released on Feb. 11, “Texas Hold ‘Em” along with “16 Carriages” (which is currently at No. 9 on the Hot 100), followed Beyoncé’s Verizon commercial that aired during CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl LVIII.
The track took the top spot of Hot Country Singles from Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves, whose duet "I Remember Everything" was number one for 20 weeks. “16 Carriages,” came in at No. 9 on the chart.
She also made another historic achievement as the first woman to have topped Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs since the song charts in October 1958, joining Ray Charles, Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
The singles are leading up to the release of her new album, “Act II,” the second installment of her “RENAISSANCE” trilogy that is slated to drop on March 29.
Beyoncé’s success in country music has not come without some opposition. CBS News reported that a country radio station in Oklahoma received criticism for refusing to play "Texas Hold 'Em."
After public outcry, KYKC-FM eventually added the song to its country playlist because "it sounded like country music."
