5 Reasons Why We Love Moneybagg Yo
It’s hard to talk about the hottest rappers in the game right now without mentioning Moneybagg Yo.
Born Demario DeWayne White Jr., Moneybagg Yo has always been a success. Not only has his last four albums — Reset (2018), 43va Heartless (2019), and Time Served (2020),. A Gangsters Pain (2021) — charted on Billboard, but he’s had mixtapes — Federal 3x (2017), Bet On Me (2018) — do so as well.
However, it wasn’t until the release of his latest and fourth studio album, A Gangsta’s Pain, which dropped on April 23 of this year, that the “Time Today” rapper truly saw a transcendent breakthrough.
A Gangsta’s Pain debuted at number one, already certified gold, and the lead single, “Wockesha,” marks his first career No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
As the BET Hip Hop Awards 2021 inch closer, let’s look into all the reasons we can’t get enough of Moneybagg Yo.
His Business Ventures
When you see rappers buy expensive jewelry or gift $330,000 Rolls Royce trucks to their significant others, it’s hard to fathom those being responsible financial decisions.
But when you got it, you got it. And Moneybagg Yo’s got it. It all comes down to paperwork: Moneybagg Yo is savvy about the deals he signs.
The “Me Vs Me” rapper is not only a part of Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG) but has his own label, Bread Gang Entertainment. In addition, the father of eight also has multiple music distribution deals with a myriad of music groups, which elicits better percentages.
For example, A Gangsta’s Pain was released as a collaboration with CMG, his imprint BGE, Roc Nation, N-Less Entertainment, and Interscope Records.
Being that he’s reportedly worth $4 million with the majority of his earnings coming from music. For Moneybagg Yo, selling big means collecting big.
His Relationship Life
Moneybagg Yo’s love life is notorious for going viral as his dating choices seem to be everyone’s favorite topic of discussion.
It could be because they’re also high-profile celebs.
Yo’s ex was none other than it-girl, Megan Thee Stallion. Although the pairing didn’t last, fans ate them up while it did. And he’s currently dating Instagram influencer Ari Fletcher, who has a child with Chicago rapper G Herbo and has been linked to superstar boxer Gervonta Davis.
Or it could be because he likes to spoil his women. Like when he bought Ari a 2021 Rolls Royce Cullinan and a slew of Hermès Birkin Bags.
His Hooks
If there is one thing Moneybagg Yo knows how to do, it’s make a hook.
Peep any of his hit singles, and guaranteed, he rhymes and delivers it in a way that draws you to sing along.
Whether it’s yelling “B*** you played!” at the top of your lungs to his “U Played” joint with Lil Baby, “Ion trust nobody” to his “Me Vs Me” single, or quizzically asking out loud if a boke n*** “Said Sum,” Moneybagg Yo has the cheat code when it comes to an infectious hook.

His Sassy Bars
Moneybagg Yo’s street credit aside, his use of sassy African-American vernacular English is one thing that makes the rapper so likable and a fun listen.
Like on “Hard For The Next” with Future, for example:.
“Don’t know who need to hear this, another nigga could never Spoilin’ her too easy, make it harder for the next one,” he raps. “It’s the Maybach drive itself for me. I better not touch the wheel in this car,” he continues.
His Memphis Roots
Moneybagg Yo’s success and ascent in the rap industry cannot go without credit to the overall Memphis scene that’s oozing with talent.
Young Dolph, BlocBoy JB, Pooh Shiesty, NLE Chopper and Blac Yougsta are only a few. Then, of course, there’s Yo Gotti, to whom he’s signed.
As talented as the 29-year-old is, the buzz of the city of Memphis, the accent it’s given him and even the culture are, too, reasons why we want to stay in tune.
