Bay Area rapper Kafani was shot several times in Oakland, Calif., Saturday (Sept. 28) night, the San José Mercury news reports. The 33-year-old, born Amir Rahsad, was said to be filming a music video for a rebuttal diss aimed at fellow Bay Area spitter Philthy Rich's "Swear to God" track at the time of incident.

Police say an unidentified man told Kafani and a surrounding group that they couldn't film in the location at around 11:39 p.m., then sprayed the rapper with bullets as the collective tried to pack up.

Reportedly hit five times, Kafani was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and remained in critical condition as of Monday (Sept. 30).

According to Hip-HopVibe.com, the Oakland native and founding member of rap group Bayface Assassins, was pulled into Rich's lyrical rift with fellow Bay spitters Messy Marv and DB Tha General. Authorities have not said the alleged rap beef motivated the attack, and that Kafani has been involved in shootouts before. He was named at the scene of a November 2011 shooting in West Oakland, which led to the death of a 23-month-old boy. The child's father was shooting a music video at a housing project and disrespected a gang member on the day of that shooting.

At press time, Kafani's management did not respond to BET.com's request for comment on the weekend incident.
