J. Cole Brings Out Redman at SXSW

Joey Bada$, Iamsu! and more join Dreamville takeover.

J. Cole's showcase at SXSW was a celebration of hip hop's rising stars. The rapper's "Dreamville Takeover" featured a number of artists signed to his imprint along with up-and-comers like Iamsu! and BET Music Matters artist Joey Bada$, along with one very special guest: Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Redman.

As the only '90s act on the bill, Red rallied the hipster crowd with a selection of old school hits. He kicked off his set with his verse on “Da Rockwilder” before playing a few more Method Man and Redman hits and classics from Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang, Slick Rick and others. “It ain’t even that turnt up music, it’s hip hop and it still gave you that feeling,” he said.

Redman also used the occasion to announce that he and Meth have a new album in the works and a sequel to their classic stoner flick How High.

Cole closed out the show by bringing out a string of artists from his Dreamville label and added that he will perform his hit album 2014 Forest Hills Drive in its entirety during the tour.
