Drake’s Controversial “American Slaves” Lyric on “Slime You Out” Draws Backlash

It’s not going over lightly.

It isn’t surprising that a Drake line would cause headlines, but this one’s a little bit different.

On his latest SZA-collaborative song “Slime You Out,” which already drew backlash from Halle Berry over the single’s artwork, the Toronto rapper caught more flack from the actual lyrics within it. A bar from the song’s opening verse has him rapping: "You got my mind in a terrible place / Whipped and chained you like American slaves."

The For All the Dogs rapper hasn’t yet issued a public explanation over the controversial line, but it did inspire social media to hit him with some backlash.

SZA has also not publicly responded to the Drake bar. It will be interesting to see if it is pulled prior to For All The Dogs’ scheduled release this Friday (September 22).
