No surprise at the box office this weekend: Twilight trounced the competition and took a massive $141.3 million bite out of domestic ticket sales. The final film in the vampire saga performed better than the three previous incarnations. Were the numbers fueled by Twihard fans or interest in the on-screen chemistry between on-off lovers Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart? Probably both. 
While Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 knocked Skyfall, the new James Bond film, out of the top spot, the Daniel Craig-starring film still made a killing at the box office in its second week, grossing $41.5 million for a worldwide total of $669 million. Skyfall is the highest-grossing film in Bond history.
Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, starring Daniel Day Lewis as the Civil War-era president, also did well in wide release, grossing $21 million. Reviews of the film have been mostly positive, with a few critics pointing out that the few Black characters are more one-dimensional than expected. Lincoln is expected to be an Oscar contender, particularly for Lewis, whose resemblance to Abraham Lincoln is uncanny.
Next week's new entries include Red Dawn, starring Chris Hemsworth and Connor Cruise, along with The Silver Linings Playbook, starring Bradley Cooper and Chris Tucker.
