Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mary J. Blige, and Camila Cabello Shine in ‘Rob Peace’ Official Trailer

The film explores race, family, and social mobility themes.

The official trailer for Republic Pictures’ upcoming biographical drama “Rob Peace” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mary J. Blige, and Camila Cabello, has been released.

“Rob Peace,” written and directed by Ejiofor, is based on Jeff Hobbs’ 2014 New York Times bestselling novel “The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace.” In the film, a brilliant young man named Rob Peace, played by Jay Will, is torn between his father’s shadowed past and his own promising future. Raised by his devoted mother, played by Blige, Rob risks everything he worked for to free his imprisoned father, played by Ejiofor.

“I’m thrilled to partner with Republic Pictures in bringing this extraordinary story to audiences,” Ejiofor said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight. “Jeff Hobbs’ powerful book on Rob’s life fused together essential thoughts for me on race, housing, education, criminal justice, family and community. I can’t wait for audiences to experience Rob’s truly compelling life onscreen, at a time when the complex nature of social mobility remains as important as ever.”

President of Republic Pictures Dan Cohen added, “Republic Pictures is committed to providing a platform for films with the potential to stir conversation and impact culture. We are incredibly proud to work with Chiwetel Ejiofor and this esteemed producing team to support such an important project.”

Blige also serves as an executive producer on the project. “Rob Peace” will be released in theatres on Friday, August 16. Check out the trailer below.
