Premiere: Master P Strikes Comedic Gold With Reboot Of His 1998 Classic, "I Got The Hook Up"

The sequel stars DC Young Fly, Jess Hilarious, FatBoy SSE and Pio La Ditingancia.

It’s never too late to make a comeback, and Master P is joining the reboot ranks with the sequel to his 1998 cult-comedy, I Got The Hook Up. The original tells the story of two minor scam artists— Black (played by Master P) and Blue (played by Anthony Johnson)— finding the come-up of a lifetime. Amid a case of identity fraud, they received a shipment of cellphones, recruited Black’s girlfriend, Lorraine (played by Gretchen Palmer), to make their business as legit as possible. In a hilarious yet illegal journey during the early days of the wireless phone epidemic, Black and Blue sparked their new money-making venture, but as a great man once said: “mo’ money, mo’ problems.” When local thugs and customers realize the phones don’t work, the team works to clean up their mess, avoid authorities or feel the wrath of the neighborhood.

Following the same blueprint, Black and Blue are back, twenty years later. Thanks to Blue’s son, played by FatBoy SSE, the rapper-comedian is enlisted by Wild ‘N Out’s DC Young Fly to sell burner phones, just like “his pops back in the day.” However, the masterminds actually stealing the phones are former Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood star, Apryl Jones and the host of BET’s Excess, Pio La Ditingancia.

Master P and Anthony Johnson both reprise their lead roles alongside John Witherspoon and Tommy "Tiny" Lister.

Romeo Miller, son of the No Limit mogul, has a lead role as a detective. Other cameos include “Independent” rapper, Webbie and Love & Hip-Hop: NY star, Juju C.. Just as Master P states in the movie, "last time Christmas came early like this, it was 1998." Despite the 20-year gap, the hip-hop legend told BET Digital, “I did the movie I Got the Hook Up 2 because this generation of fans are looking for funny movies like ones we grew up on.” With the incorporation of budding comedians including Jess Hilarious and greats like Sheryl Underwood, the trailer provides just enough comedic gold to ensure success.

The reboot is slated for a 2019 release. Peep the soundtrack’s first single, “All I Want,” featuring Lil Wayne and check out the full official trailer below.
