Demi Moore is one of the newest additions to the star-studded Empire cast, with fans getting a glimpse of her role as Lucious Lyon's nurse and caretaker, Claudia, at the end of season three's explosive finale.

Now, while on the promo trail for season four, which further explores her role on the Fox drama, the iconic actress goes a little deeper in the vaults of her career. She touches on the backlash she's received for her powerful, feminist-themed and unfrilly roles of the past.

Having starred in the likes of G.I. Jane and Indecent Proposal, which tackled various themes ranging from sexuality and the varying dimensions of the female antagonist, Moore has quite the range, but it was not always appreciated by the Hollywood powers that be. 

"I've always looked for things that I think challenged me," she said. "If I saw something that posed a provocative question — and sometimes that question is, 'Why is that even an issue?' — it was almost like common sense. So, why shouldn't a woman be given an opportunity, if she's interested, to be in active duty in the military?"

While admitting that those narratives are fully subjective, she firmly stands with pride by the notion that she's done her part in pushing for more diverse representations of women in film.

"It's not for everybody, but if you have an interest and you're good at it, why not?" she added. "So a lot of it just came out of my own curiosity and things that definitely pushed the envelope."
