Man Charged With Hoax at Boston Marathon Finish Line
Kevin Edson has been charged with possession of a hoax device and disturbing the peace for dropping a backpack containing a rice cooker at the Boston Marathon finish line Tuesday. Edson will appear in court Wednesday for the charges.
The incident occurred only a few hours after a ceremony held at the Hynes Convention Center marking the one-year anniversary of the bombing. Vice President Joe Biden attended the event acknowledging the victims and survivors of the attacks. The tragedy took the lives of three people and injured more than 260.
Two hours after the tributes, Edson was walking barefoot in a street when a police officer noticed him acting suspiciously. Following his arrest, a bomb squad blew up the backpack as a precaution. News of the hoax brought the city of Boston back to the shaky time of the bombings, as police blocked off the finish line area for three hours from civilians.
