Diggy Talks New Album, Closer to My Dreams Tour

The rap rookie promises fans will hear his debut album “before this year is over.”

Diggy Simmons stopped by The Breakfast Club on New York's Power 105.1 radio this morning and opened up about his new album, dealing with haters and going on his first tour.
The 16-year-old rapper, who was named one of XXL magazine's Freshman Class, said he was hard at work on his debut album.
"Before this year is over, everybody will have my first album," he said.
Though he is heir to rap royalty, Diggy said he initially kept his music career a secret from his famous Dad (Rev Run) and Uncle (Russell Simmons).
"He wasn't really in it," Diggy said of his father’s input on his career. "He wasn't shopping me around to labels or anything."
Though he admitted that he has encountered some negativity in his pursuit of a rap career, Diggy said he would answer his critics by focusing on making quality music.
"People are always gonna have those preconceived notions of who you are, but my whole thing is 'listen before you judge,'" he said.
The young Simmons performed "Copy, Paste," the first single from his yet-untitled debut, in his first televised performance at this year's BET Awards. He recently embarked on his first tour, 106 & Park’s Closer to My Dreams, which made a stop in New York last night (July 28).
"The way that people have been reacting every night and embracing me and knowing my songs... it's surreal." he said of the experience. "It's my first tour and I'm just grateful for the opportunity."
