At a time when hip hop is more redundant than ever, carving out a niche could very well separate the 15 album mainstay from the 15 minute (post ringtone era) rapper. Decatur, Georgia rhymers Strap, Ali and Quez — collectively known as Travis Porter — have done just that, focusing on simple yet catchy hooks and easy to follow flows.
On their latest mixtape, Music Money Magnums 2, the trio did not stray too far from their signature sound, which can best be described as trap mixed with frat.
MMM2's first four songs come off similar, both from a production standpoint – medium tempo, heavy on synth and keys and subtle snare hits – to the subject matter, which centers around the gold digging tendencies of the women that engulf these three party rockers.

The group touched on all different types of materialistic women, from the ones that latch on to rappers and ball players ("Attached," "The Money") to the exotic dancers that will do just about anything for that on-the-clock capital ("Pot of Gold") to the girls in the club that turn up for that cash ("Bankroll").
"Hoe, I'm a ballplayer, but I ain't no athlete/She said that I got all the cheddar that's why she attached to me/Shorty wanted S-T-K, I took her to Applebee's/And your b---h we both runnin'/Ain't have to give the girl no money/B---h said she used to f--k around with Lou Williams/Now we f----n' with Joe Johnson," spit Quez on the London on da Track-produced "Attached."
The mixtape kept it's high life theme on songs like "Dope," "No Understanding" and the Problem-assisted "She Knows," which served as one of the album's standout joints about carefree life with lines like, "I like the way your body move/She like the way I ride the coup/It's my way or the highway/You a bird, little b---h, you could fly away/I met a bad lil' b---h on a Friday/And said she don't wanna holler when you see her/Got a baby daddy, and she know I gotta B-M," Strap rapped with Auto-Tune backing.
Like a lot of artists, particularly from Atlanta, Travis Porter came in a little heavy on the Auto-Tune, which was also prevalent on "Everything" and "Geekin'." Production overall became more dynamic on the second half of the mixtape, with songs like "Turn Around" and "Don't We," which features Future.
Ultimately, Music Money Magnums 2 offers good party music, but look elsewhere for substance. Songs like "Bless You" and "Turn Around" serve only as a reminder of how limited the subject matter is in the frat.
