[Positively Terrible Idea] The Extreme Risk Behind Increasingly Popular 'Sex Roulette' Parties
Risky sexual behavior is nothing new, but a new trend is disturbing on a whole new level.
According to doctors, "sex roulette" parties, where one person is secretly HIV positive and nobody is allowed to wear protection, are on the rise. These parties are reportedly often attended by gay men who enjoy the thrill of not knowing whether or not they are going to be infected.Â
Spanish doctor Dr. Josep Mallola told el Periodico that the parties are a sign that people have "lost respect" for HIV. He added that some of the parties are known as "blue" parties because attendees will take anti-viral drugs to reduce the risk of transmitting the deadly virus.
Psychosexual therapist Kate Morely told HelloU, "Going to sex roulette parties is about the risk, party goers think the higher the risk, the stronger the thrill," she said. "In the case of sex parties the intense high is as you combine orgasm with high adrenaline."
Obviously though, the long-term consequences far outweigh the short-term high. Hopefully those who are tempted to participate will think twice.
