Stacey Dash Shares Shocking Details About Troubled Past

The actress opened up about several traumatic experiences.

Stacey Dash is opening up like never before in a new interview about a series of troubling events from her past. Speaking with People, she revealed for the first time publicly that she was molested as a child and struggled with drug abuse and domestic violence for years. She even recounted a time where she almost aborted her first child but received a sign that told her otherwise.

One of the most heartbreaking moments of the interview was when she spoke on almost going through with an abortion after finding out she was pregnant.

"When I got pregnant, I was doing a lot of drugs and I didn't want to live. I wanted to die," she said. "I was going to have an abortion. I was crying and I said to God, 'Please tell me what to do.' And God told me, 'Keep your son.' I ripped the IV out of my arm and I said, 'I'm keeping my son.'"

This beautiful moment was short-lived for the actress, as she said her abusive ex then tracked her down, held her at gunpoint and raped her inside her home while her son lie there asleep.

"When we had been together, I was so starving for love that I held on. I got my a** beat for those moments of love," she said. "But when a child comes, a man holds a gun to your head and you think, 'My son is in that crib right there. No, you are not going to do this to my child.'"

The Bronx native said after the incident, he returned but she was armed with a gun to protect herself and her son. She fired several shots to scare him off. "A gun saved my life," she said. 'That's why I won't let my Second Amendment right be taken away from me."

While some parents would have chosen to consciously keep such scarring memories away from their children, Dash says she tells her son Austin, now 25, and daughter Lola, 12, everything she's experienced in hope that it would inspire them.

"I let them know that I survived. I'm not a victim," she said. "And there is nothing they can't overcome."

While she was raped as an adult, this was not her first time being abused. She explained that when she was just four-years-old, she began being sexually abused by a family acquaintance who was 16.

As she hit 16 herself, she became addicted to cocaine and said it began to control her life for the next few years. Into her early 20s, still an addict, she entered into a physically abusive relationship with a man. She said he would strategically hit her in places where the bruises and cuts would not be publicly seen.

"He would punch me in my body, my legs, my chest, anything that could be covered," she said. "But part of me felt like I deserved it because what I was coming from was no better. I didn't have an identity."

From here, she went on to clarify that she meant no harm by her words that Black History Month and Black television networks were unnecessary. "I'm saying we deserve more," she said. "I just hope people understand that I'm not judging; I'm coming from experience."
