Kwame Kilpatrick Won't Testify in Defense Case
Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick declined to testify in his own defense Wednesday.
Kilpatrick, his father Bernard, and a friend, Bobby Furgeson, are currently under trial for corruption during his time in office, including bribery, fraud and tax violations. His father and Furgeson also declined to speak.
Kilpatrick was elected in 2001 but resigned in 2008 after lying in a civil case about having sex with an aide. He served 14 months in prison for violating his parole in that case and recently spent another weekend behind bars for violating it again by not reporting all of his financial transactions last fall.
Closing arguments in the corruption case will be presented Monday to cap off the nearly 70-day trial.
