Steph Curry Shows Love To Independent Black Designers During The NBA Finals!

Here’s what we know.

Steph Curry is using his platform to amplify independent Black designers during the NBA Finals. Here’s what we know!

In honor of Black History Month, Curry took to Instagram with the hashtag #BHMFits to show off his stylish ensembles created by Black designers. Hoping to continue the celebration of Black creatives beyond the month of February, Curry chose to continue his partnership with boutique owner Sherri McMullen and his stylist Sheraine Robinson to highlight underrepresented Black designers.

FYI: Similar to a red carpet moment, the "tunnel walk" at the NBA Finals allows an amazing opportunity for basketball players to showcase their personal style.

With millions of eyes watching from their seats at home, Curry used the iconic moments to shine the spotlight on some of his favorite designs. According to New York Times, McMullen selected two brands to showcase in the tunnel: RichFresh and Ade Dehye.

The founder of RichFresh, Patrick Henry (aka “Fresh”), spoke to the media outlet about the huge opportunity to present his clothing line to the world. “I’m an independent operator, so moments like this are very important for the growth of my brand," he explained. "When he wears my clothes, it makes other N.B.A. players pay attention.”

Akintunde Ahmad also chimed in about seeing his clothes on the Golden State player. The owner of Ade Dehye shared, “It was a big win to see someone of Steph’s magnitude wearing my overcoat. We’re not talking about him wearing it to the carwash where someone may have taken a picture—we’re talking about walking into the N.B.A. finals where all eyes are on him.”

Ahmad’s sales reportedly spiked within 48 hours after Steph Curry’s tunnel walk!

ICYMI: Fans also adored the sky-blue sweater worn by Curry during his Pregame walk on Wednesday. According to New York Times, the trendy top was designed by Whitney Michel of Michel Men.

Michel openly stated her gratitude and appreciation for the basketball champion’s fashionable endorsement. “It’s a stamp of approval and feels like validation that I’m on the right path and should continue grinding it out,” she expressed. “He’s helping open doors that others might otherwise not answer unless it’s Black History Month or Juneteenth.”

We love a game-changer! Kudos to Curry for using his platform to build the Black dollar.
