Vanilla Ice Slams Wiz Khalifa's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Song
Vanilla Ice might just see himself as an expert of sorts on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and his review of Wiz Khalifa's song "Shell Shocked" reflects his dedication to the pizza-loving reptiles.
In a nutshell, Ice feels the EDM-esque track, featuring Juicy J and Ty Dolla $ign, missed the mark. "With respect to all of the artists, the song doesn't really do it for me," he said in a GQ interview.
"It feels a little artificial — what I mean by that is that it sounds like a bunch of executives in the corporate world put it together. It really does not fit the theme of the Ninja Turtles legend. I think you have to understand, and be a true Ninja, to possess the magic to really pull off the secret sound."
Ice knows a little about music for the Ninja Turtles flicks. His 1991 release "Ninja Rap" was the theme song for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and he appeared in the movie. He's also featured in a Kraft Macaroni & Cheese commercial promoting the new TMNT film.
That being said, maybe it's just time that Ice embrace the change. Khalifa's song follows in the new direction of the TMNT movie. The Michael Bay-produced flick is a reinterpretation of the '90s movies rather than an exact replica. For example, the Turtles — Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael — appear much taller with slightly different facial features than in the old films.
TMNT hits theaters this Friday (Aug. 8).
