Deception Canceled After One Season
Meagan Good and Laz Alonso are free agents once again. The actors' drama series Deception won't be coming back for a second season, NBC confirms.
The hour-long drama, which aired for 11 episodes this year, struggled in the ratings since its March 18 debut on the network. Hopes were high for the series after the wild success of Scandal, which also has a Black female lead in Kerry Washington. There were rumors the show was headed for cancellation after losing 40 percent of its viewers after the series premiere.
However, Good will keep busy this fall with a role in the sequel to her 2011 hit film, Think Like a Man, while Alonzo has street dance flick Battle of the Year coming out soon. Alonzo, who co-starred with Good in the 2011 hit Jumping the Broom, talked to us in January about how their prior working relationship helped their chemistry in Deception.
Good, meanwhile, gave credit to groundbreaking actress Diahann Carroll for creating opportunities for Black women on television.
We're sure it won't be long before these talented actors move on to exciting new projects.
