Plot Twist: Prince's Favorite Color Was Not Purple
Despite Jay-Z's best efforts to brand his "favorite hue," no artist has owned or sported a color as well as Prince did purple. Synonymous with his music, flair for fashion, and romantic escapades, the color embodied the legendary singer.
So, it's rather shocking to learn that the "1999" singer's favorite color wasn't purple at all, but, in fact, orange. The bizarre revelation comes courtesy of Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson, who revealed the information in an interview with the Evening Standard.
Ahead of the opening of an exhibit featuring her brother's prized artifacts, Tyka discussed her favorite item from the collection. “The standout piece for me is his orange Cloud guitar,” she said. “It is strange because people always associate the color purple with Prince, but his favorite color was actually orange.”
Known to many as "The Purple One" and catapulting into superstardom after the release of Purple Rain, the thought of Prince having an orange crush is rather unsettling. But after a brief Google image search of the singer's public appearances over the last decade, you'll find that Prince certainly did know how to sport the boisterous color.
Here he is in an all-orange suit from his legendary 2007 Super Bowl performance, and here he is in orange — with an orange guitar — during a Las Vegas residency in 2006. He was also spotted with the same orange guitar at that year’s BET Awards.
So, could we have been living under his orange rain all along?
