The Weeknd Opens Up About Managing Anxiety, His Faith, Love for Brazil, and More
Cover star The Weeknd recently sat down with Billboard Brazil to discuss his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, his love for the South American country, and his mental health journey ahead of his “The After Hours til Dawn Stadium Tour” this weekend.
The Grammy Award winner is set to kick off his tour on Saturday, September 7, in São Paulo, returning to the bustling city that not only hosted his two sold-out shows last October but also served as the place where he wrote the central track of his new album.
He also shared his admiration for the people of Brazil, stating, “I can speak for all artists when I say it’s hard to put into words the love and energy that the Brazilian people express when you’re on stage.”
He added, “You feel the music so deeply. São Paulo and Rio reminded me that the frequencies we radiate as musicians are important. They remind me why I wanted to make music: to connect. I’ll spend the rest of my life knowing that.”
Despite his years of success, the 34-year-old admitted that he continues to struggle with his mental health. “My anxiety is a constant battle, and I feel like it never goes away. I’m learning to control it, but I’ve already realized that it’s part of my life. I can’t escape it.”
The "Starboy" singer shared that he finds strength in his faith. “I think about giving up every day. But I also find purpose every day,” he said, adding, “My relationship with God is stronger than ever.”
He continued, “I find comfort in His presence when I need it most. I talk to Him constantly. It’s been a long journey, but I’m here.”
Along with announcing his new project, The Weeknd posted a cryptic, poetic reflection on his 14-year journey, expressing, “I look in the mirror and see both age and renewal, feeling caught in between, unable to move forward.”
He has hinted at personal challenges and new creative directions, though the album’s release date remains unknown.
