Soul Train Awards 2022: Get Cozy with The Baritone Sounds Of R&B/Soul Star Giveon

The rising star is in the running for ‘Best R&B/Soul Male Artist’

If Giveon isn’t already in rotation of your favorite r&b playlist, the sultry records below will have you hitting the add button immediately.  He rose to prominence with his collaboration with Drake on their 2020 single, "Chicago Freestyle,” but songs like "Heartbreak Anniversary" and "Like I Want You," would prove he could hold his own weight.

This year, he’s up for a nomination for "Best R&B/Soul Male Artist" and up against several equally talented crooners like Brent Faiyaz, Burna Boy Chris Brown, Lucky Daye, and veterans Charlie Wilson and Babyface.  Ahead of this year’s ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Deon Cole, get cozy with the baritone sounds of Giveon.

  • ‘Heartbreak Anniversary’

“Heartbreak Anniversary” served as the second single from the r&b crooner’s debut EP, Take Time. The piano-led ballad finds him singing about the date of a breakup, reminiscing and grieving about a love lost.  The track was included on Giveon's compilation album, When It's All Said and Done... Take Time, released in March 2021. The song went certified platinum 4x and earned him several recognitions, including a Grammy nomination for "Best R&B Song."

  • ‘Garden Kisses’

Before opening up for Snoh Alegra on tour and getting a co-sign from Drake, Giveon had just two records out on Apple Music, “Fields” and “Garden Kisses.” He released both songs in 2018, the latter of which finds the singer on a mission to meet up with his love interest and isn’t letting anything stop him.

  • ‘Lost Me ’

“Lost Me” is the third single from Giveon’s debut studio album, Give or Take. The song, which finds the singer expressing how he’s not looking for love but instead someone to pass the time with,  did well on the charts peaking at no. Eleven on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Single from Billboard. It shot to the 30th slot on the US Rhythmic chart and 42 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

The Soul Train Awards 2022 premieres Saturday, November 26 at 8 pm ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
