Fifteen years ago today, Notorious B.I.G. was gunned down in Los Angeles. And, although no one has ever been officially charged with the killing, that doesn't mean investigators haven't zeroed in on one or two suspects over the years. To commemorate the anniversary of the great rapper's death, Complex caught up with a retired L.A.P.D. detective who recently published a book identifying who he believes was responsible.
Greg Kading, the author of Murder Rap and a retired officer, says a man named Darnell Bolton aka Wardell Fouse or "Poochie" shot Biggie dead that fateful night in L.A. According to Kading, Poochie, 36 at the time, was a diehard member of the Bloods gang hired by then Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight to execute the killing. For his services, he was paid $13,000.
Poochie was shot and killed himself in 2003 as the result of an unrelated gang dispute. Though Kading believes there were multiple conspirators in the murder of B.I.G., including Suge and his girlfriend at the time, he says it's highly unlikely that they will ever be charged.
“That’s all the justice that these cases will see," Kading says of Poochie's death. "The co-conspirators are never going to be prosecuted. Unfortunately, the cases are so complicated and convoluted. These will never see criminal prosecution."
