Lonzo Ball made some bold remarks about the current state of hip-hop when he came for the genre’s biggest legends. But now it seems the Lakers star is trying to make a run for a lucrative rap career himself. The 19-year-old recently dropped his first-ever rap song, “Melo Ball 1,” and it’s interesting to say the least.

The two-minute track sounds like an ode to his little brother, LaMelo Ball. “See my lil brother, he just doing him/You can check the ‘gram, he got a million fans/Got his brothers, he don’t need no fans/He swagged out, he a walking gem,” Zo raps on the hook, over what seems to be a slow-tempo trap beat. The cover art that accompanies the single, features a cartoon version of LaMelo driving a Lamborghini, which he was most recently given for his 16th birthday.

While the single isn’t completely an ear-sorer, it comes briefly after Ball riled up fans with his comments about Nas. In the premiere episode of Ball in the Family, Lonzo insisted that Illmatic artist was “outdated,” and that Future and Migos were the new kings of the culture. A number of influencers including T.I. and Lil B blasted Ball on social media.

At this point, it’s safe to say Lonzo can’t even touch Nas’s career. But only time and practice will tell if he can leave a mark in hip-hop music. “Melo Ball 1” is available on iTunes. Take a listen to the new track below.
