Lil Kim Reveals John Singleton Had Plans To Direct Her Biopic Before He Passed

The rap icon also spoke on who she would like to see play her in a biopic.

Lil Kim the Queen Bee graced the ladies of The Real with her presence last Friday (Nov. 8) where she discussed her latest studio offering, coping with the recent passing of her dad and cementing her legacy at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards as its I Am Hip Hop Award recipient.

  • While they had her in the hot seat, the ladies touched on rumors that Kim’s story may be getting the film treatment soon. While there’s currently not a Lil Kim biopic in the works, the Hard Core rapper confirmed that she’s received a bevy of offers over the years to adapt her life’s work into a movie. “I’m talking about major offers,” the Brooklyn legend shared. “Even BET has made an offer. Lifetime. Lionsgate. But the thing is, I had to be ready, and I think now I’m ready to tell the story.

  • Unfortunately, however, the one man that Lil Kim had hoped to entrust with telling her story is no longer here to see her dream come to fruition.

The “Get Money” raptress revealed that the late film director icon John Singleton had expressed interest in helming her biopic prior to his passing in April. According to Kim,  Singleton invited her to a Hollywood party where he asked why she hadn’t done a film yet. Kim said she told the Boyz N The Hood filmmaker that she had always wanted to do a biopic, but not without him signing off on it first.

  • “Him and I went [to a party]. He was like, ‘I want you to be my celebrity date.’ But I knew what that meant. He wants to talk, right?” she recollected. “He said to me, ‘Kim, why aren’t we doing this movie? You’re a walking bestseller.’ I was like, ‘Well, I’m waiting for you.'I said to him, ‘I always said if I did a movie about my life, I’m not doing it with anybody but you.’ And then he passed away.”
