Kendrick Lamar Talks Real Sherane

Rapper's real-life high school flame likes her role on good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

If you're familiar with the music of Kendrick Lamar, you're probably familiar with Sherane. The Compton rapper's high school fling plays a prominent role in his intensely narrative debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d city. Lamar based the character on a real person, and although the portrayal is not entirely positive, he says in a new interview that the real Sherane was nonetheless excited at her inclusion.
"It's funny because it's a weird thing when I go back to the neighborhood and the homeys know who I'm talking about," he said while talking with MTV News recently. "It's a big joke, and I've been hearing things, you know. She's more excited and surprised that I put her in a song than anything."

In addition to being referenced on GKMC, Sherane also pops up in the recent video for the single "Backstreet Freestyle." A scantily clad, booty-shaking version of Lamar's former flame makes an extended cameo.

"Nah, that wasn't the real Sherane," he told MTV, later clarifying that he has no ill will toward her. "But it was a great, great clone of Sherane for sure."
