Michael Sam Is Returning To Professional Football
Michael Sam is once again putting on shoulder pads and a helmet as he’s officially becoming a professional football player.
According to OutSports, the former St. Louis Rams linebacker, who became the first openly gay NFL player when he was drafted in 2014, will take the field this weekend for the Barcelona Dragons against the Stuttgart Surge.
Sam was reportedly added to the player roster for the Dragons this week when linebacker Max Nacewicz announced his retirement. Sam had already been signed as an assistant coach, and opted to step back onto the field with the team, according to American Football International.
The Dragons play in the European League of Football, which is in part a return of the former NFL Europe.
The last time Michael Sam played professionally was for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League where he suited up for one game. Prior to that, he played in preseason games for the Rams in 2014 and was on the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys for half of the 2014 season.
