R. Kelly Getting Even More Streams After 'Surviving R. Kelly' Premieres
For those who have been watching “Surviving R. Kelly” it’s been nothing short of haunting.
The documentary premiered on Lifetime Thursday (January 3) and has sparked the tired debate over how to listen to the legendary R&B singer’s music knowing all of the terrible accusations against him.
Apparently, plenty of America is fine with separating the man from his music as Kelly’s music has seen a 16 percent increase over the last three days. It’s not known what songs received a boost in streams.
Last year, Spotify announced they would be removing R. Kelly’s music from their platform’s promoted playlists, which sparked anger among other artists, many of whom believed the streaming platform was beginning a dangerous precedent.
Interestingly, along with rising streams, women reporting sexual assault is also on the rise. The National Sexual Assault Hotline saw an uptick in calls on Thursday, according to the Daily Beast. On Thursday night, it say a 27 percent increase in calls from the previous Thursday.
Part two of “Surviving R. Kelly” premiered Friday (January 4) while part three is slated to premiere tonight (January 5).
