Beyoncé Immortalisée: Pop Icon's Name Enshrined in French Dictionary
Beyoncé now has an extra dose of respect associated with her name.
In 1997, she emerged in the legendary girl group Destiny's Child and quickly became a household name. Nearly 30 years later and a career that has taken her beyond her wildest dreams, Beyoncé' has marked a new milestone. Billboard reports that her first name will be included in the French encyclopedic dictionary Petit Larousse Illustré, according to U.K. publication The Times.
In the literary resource, Queen Bee will be listed as a proper noun in the dictionary, and her entry reads, “American singer of R&B and pop.”
Still, the "Renaissance" singer isn't the only celebrity to be recognized with this honor. LeBron James will also be added to the dictionary.
These entries “reflect concerns, developments or strong movements this year,” Carine Girac-Marinier, head of dictionaries and encyclopedias at Larousse, told French outlet Le Point.
This distinction follows her acclaimed "Cowboy Carter" album, which peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and the Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, the latter leading Bey to become the first Black woman to hold down that chart in that space.
