Mia Thornton Reveals What Led To Divorce From Gordon Thornton

They had been married for 11 years.

Mia Thornton is shedding light on what caused her and ex-husband, Gordon Thornton, to divorce.

During the latest episode of "The Real Housewives of Potomac" on Sunday (Dec. 3), the reality TV star said Gordon's demanding career and their family's finances played a huge role in the dissolution of their marriage, as reported by Bravo

During episode five, Mia explained in a therapy session with Gordon how their issues have affected their family.

“We have recently gone through a financial change with our business, and having to downsize, and having to navigate a lot," Mia told the therapist.

"The relationship between Gordon and I has definitely changed," she continued. "Ever since Gordon was voted out of the family business, he's been working a lot more because we were expanding our portfolio with other partnership groups, so it is causing a lot of tension inside of our marriage. And, to me, spending time with the kids and having balance is so much better than us always working and then we look up and our kids are grown."

Mia then moved forward and sought a divorce attorney without Gordon's knowledge.

"I had no idea it had gotten that bad with her; that's why I'm focusing on really trying to listen," Gordon said during the session.

"Gordon was really so focused on work, and then we started to argue..." Mia said to the therapist. "I told myself I won't allow my children to hear Mommy and Daddy arguing."

Mia said in a confessional during the episode, " Gordon had gotten to a point where he wasn't listening to me, and I want Gordon to retire."

On the other hand, Gordon said his primary motivation is to provide for his family.

"I set goals, and then I don't let anything get in the way. I go get it. I wanted to get to a certain economic level, so that [Mia] and the kids would be set no matter what happened to me," he noted. "I was almost there, so I was really pushing hard to get those last few nuggets."

In September, the couple split after 11 years of marriage. They share two kids: a son, Jeremiah Carter, 8, and daughter Juliana, 6. Additionally, they each have one child from their previous relationships.
