Drake: VIEWS Sold Over Half a Million Units in 24 Hours
This month has been a pretty incredible time in music. From the impromptu massive release of Beyoncé's Lemonade to the highly anticipated welcoming of Drake's VIEWS, music fans everywhere are pretty hype.
Now, with two of the most celebrated albums of the year — thus far — already out, fans are eager to see who comes out on top, and while Bey's firmly secured the No. 1 Billboard spot for her opening week, Drake seems sure that his latest offering may bump her to No. 2.
According to Complex, the Toronto rapper said at an event in his hometown last night that the album sold more than half a million units in a day. Holding up his phone in the air, he said, "I got a text message that we sold, like, 630,000 some records in one night."
Seeing as VIEWS was literally just released, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but if his claims hold any truth, this would see him make history. If the figure turns out to be accurate, this massive inflation would be a result of the shift in policy by the RIAA's new terms, which states that streaming performances for songs that were released before an album drops will factor into its overall sales.
