Rick Ross Reflects On 'U.O.E.N.O.' Lyrics About Drugging Women

"I took that on the chin and I have no love lost..."

MMG head honcho Rick Ross took a break from his sweaty gym workout to address a major controversy that has sprung up recently: his 2013 lyrics on Rocko’s “U.O.E.N.O.”

If you’ll recall, Ricky Rozay faced a storm of backlash after rapping about slipping molly in a woman’s champagne on the track, which critics equated to his endorsement of date rape. The controversy eventually led to the Florida rap artist losing an actual endorsement with Reebok, which dropped him from the deal and prompted a petition with 72,000 signatures from protesters urging the historic footwear company to release him as its spokesperson. Six years later, and Ross admits that he’s learned from the mistake and moved on in an enlightened direction… and everyone else should, too.

  • ‘I took that to the chin and I have no love lost for Reebok,’ he said in the video

“I needed to understand I was a king and they right, I didn’t need to promote that,” he said. There was more rhyme and reason behind the lyrics than some people may have cared for though," he continued. According to Rozay, the lyrics were reflective of the social life he came up around and actually ended up being the “most popular line to a lot of motherf**kas” whenever he performed the song. Therefore, he added, the line was intended to resonate with the people who lived that particular lifestyle. Still, he understood the ramifications of such behavior embedded in his lyricism. “Me being a king, I did not need to promote that among my beautiful queens,” he said.

  • Ultimately, he said life is all about ‘hurricanes’…

... and everyone’s will to withstand those that could somehow blow the roof off their own pasts. The Rather You Than Me rapper believes that the most important part of growth is learning how to move forward and amend your ways.
