Floyd Mayweather Defeats Manny Pacquiao
"The Fight of the Century" just turned out to be yet another Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight.
Mayweather thoroughly dominated Pacquiao, peppering and keeping his rival at bay with a jab and answering Pacman's flurry of blows with strong counter punches to cruise to a unanimous decision win (118-110, 116-112, 116-112) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Pacquiao walked into the ring Saturday night with the reputation for being the bigger puncher, but Mayweather left it having landed 148 total punches to Pacman's 81.
"I outboxed him," Mayweather said. "He never figured out my jab and my right hand."
After unifying boxing's welterweight titles and improving to 48-0, Mayweather promised that his final fight would take place September.
Despite failing to figure out Mayweather's jab nor get inside of the undefeated champ's reach advantage with any consistency, Pacquiao shockingly thought he won the fight.
"I thought I won the fight," Pacquiao said after the fight. "He didn't do nothing."
50 Cent, Denzel Washington, Tom Brady, Mark Wahlberg, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Michael Strahan, Justin Bieber, Michael Jordan, Jay-Z and Beyonce were just a few of the celebrities in attendance. At nearby McCarran Airport, private jets that flew in the rich and famous crowded the tarmac.
But while attendees who bet big on the fight will either go home flush or with empty pockets, few will leave Las Vegas with a bigger purse than Mayweather and Pacquaio. Regardless of the result, Mayweather takes home 60% of the nights profits, estimated at $180 million, and Pacquaio 40%, equaling $120 million by some estimates.
