Meek Mill Offers Music Earnings To Combat Gun Violence In Philadelphia
Meek Mill has devised a plan to combat gun violence in his hometown of Philadelphia, Complex reports.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Meek announced his plan to use some of his music earnings with the city following the death of fellow Philadelphia native and rapper Phat Geez, who was killed on Sunday (March 17), according to FOX 29.
"Ima do a public contract with the city of Philadelphia where 10% of my music earnings go to the city of Philadelphia to combat gun violence in our city ... ima start this movement! PIP PHAT GEEZ," Meek wrote.
“Ain’t nothing stopping me from talking the way I rap…. Too many of my friends got killed already,” he added.
"I wanna do [a] contract with the city of Philadelphia!" he added.
This is just the latest example of Meek using his platform and status to help his city. Previously, Meek declared his support for Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker after a mass shooting that left eight teenagers wounded in the city.
In a response to Mayor Parker who said “enough is enough” on a local news outlet about the ongoing violence in the city. Meek shared on X that she has his support.
“I wanna help her, especially with education,” Meek’s post read. “I have dreams of working with the Yas Foundation with Dream Chasers Academy to offer these kids resources with technology and to travel outside of that environment to understand life! I’m in on reform ima joined to help with education!”
“If you black or brown talk about this … it’s kids that're gonna pick up guns because they think they're gonna die b4 they turn 21 for a gun license,” he continued. “You will go from Xbox to Glock because of your environment … and get locked up trying to survive it. It's terrible!”
