The idea of a dream team in football continues to grow as the Philadelphia Eagles add one more explosive piece to the puzzle.

The Eagles agreed to a one-year deal with former New York Giants Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith, giving quarterback Michael Vick yet another potentially game-breaking option. Vick already had a better receiving tandem than he ever had in Atlanta with DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.

Smith, if completely healed from a season-ending knee injury in 2010, could make the Eagles the most explosive team in the NFL this season. Smith, who became the sixth Pro Bowler Philadelphia has signed in the past two weeks, is just one season removed from his record-setting 107-catch season with the Giants in 2009.

"We feel very good about our current group of receivers and Steve adds another dimension to that position," Eagles coach Andy Reid said in a statement. "He's played very well against us in the past few years and we're happy to have him on board."

But there are still some real concerns about Smith’s health. The 2009 Pro Bowler was told by the Giants that they didn’t think he was healthy enough to return to football just yet after an exam earlier this week, according to ESPN.com.  

ESPN is reporting the Giants don’t believe he will be ready to play until mid-October and would begin the season on the physically unable to play (PUP) list.

Smith obviously feels different, which led him to pursue the free agent opportunity with the Giants NFC East rivals.

"I would disagree with that," Smith said. "I feel good. I've been running, cutting, doing different things. I haven't had any setbacks."

The Eagles are apparently going forward with the belief Smith will be available to play earlier rather than later, so they have no plans to place him on PUP.
