First Lady Michelle Obama called Whitney M. Young one of her "unsung heroes" during a screening Tuesday of The Powerbroker: Whitney Young's Fight for Civil Rights, a documentary that follows Young's rise to leader of the National Urban League in the 1960s.

"For every Dr. King, there is a Whitney Young or a Roy Wilkins or a Dorothy Height, each of whom played a critical role in the struggle for change," the first lady said before the screening held at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, according to the Associated Press.
Michelle Obama is a graduate of Whitney M. Young high school in Chicago.
Young was one of the organizers behind the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech. Michelle Obama will join President Obama Wednesday in commemorating the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's speech.
The Powerbroker: Whitney Young's Fight for Civil Rights is airing on PBS.
