5 Reasons Why We are Here for a Nelly X Ashanti Reunion

The pair was spotted holding hands following the boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, where the two sat together ringside.

When Nelly and Ashanti performed their hit, "Body On Me," in front of an audience, smiling and grinding on each other on stage in a playful performance at Oakland Arena in December 2022, rumors swirled of a possible reconciliation.

In an interview last year with Andy Cohen, Ashanti left the door open after seeing the fan reactions.

“My reaction was, ‘Wow.’ It was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that [us back together],” she said at the time, “What I will say is, we’re in a better place. You know, ’cause before, it was like [mimics fighting]. But we’re cool now. Yeah, we have some conversations, you know. So it’s cool.”

The rumor mill started swirling again when they were spotted holding hands following the boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia, where they sat together ringside, according to Page Six.

Fans were instantly here for the possible reunion and even some fellow celebs jumped in the mix.

“Yo mo! I know we not seeing eye to eye either really but from lil bro to big bro STOP PLAYING AND MARRY THIS WOMAN BRO!” rapper Bow Wow wrote in the comments section of an Instagram post from The Shade Room. “You like 50  sit yo old ass down this your queen.”

So, will they, or won't they? Only time will tell. But we came up with Five Reasons Why We Are HERE for a Nelly and Ashanti Reunion.

  1. Nostalgia

Excited fans have come up with a timeline of Nelly and Ashanti's relationship. According to them, the couple connected in 2003 at a press conference for the Grammy Awards. She has previously said that he had asked her for her autograph before later asking for her phone number. In 2005, Ashanti confirmed that she and Nelly were dating and even dropped hints that a wedding could be on the horizon. They were a popular couple for nearly a decade before breaking up in 2013.

  2. Music

The early 2000s was a golden era for music and hip-hop culture. The pre-digital age meant that albums were still selling millions of copies and big arena tours brought amazing stage shows to every city. Fans who were around during those days know that Ashanti was THAT girl who brought her melodic voice and her songwriting prowess to banger after banger--especially after the release of her eponymous debut album in 2002. While Nelly sold more than 10 million copies of his 2000 debut, Country Grammar launching him into the big leagues among rap stars. His sophomore album, Nellyville was also a huge hit. Together they have sold tens of millions of albums and had a huge hit with the single, "Body On Me," in 2009. We have a feeling that if they got back together, they could get that old sound back.

  3. The Last Word

We wanna see her get her groove back. Last year, Murder Inc founder Irv Gotti appeared on Drink Champs and exposed intimate details of his past relationship with Ashanti (who was signed to his label at the time). Weeks later, the singer sat down with Angie Martinez on her IRL podcast to speak of the years she spent working with Gotti. “I accepted a long time ago that’s the person that he is,” she said at the time about her lack of surprise about his behavior, then and now.

  5. The Looks Would Give

Let's be honest, both Nelly and Ashanti are drop dead gorgeous. To see two beautiful people in love is just fun to watch. We can only imagine them shutting down red carpets and just looking as fine as they do.

  6. Wedding Bells

Why stop there? At 48 and 42, respectively, it would be beautiful to see Nelly and Ashanti get married and give us all some hope for true love. It would not be the first time that a couple got back together after a long time and found wedded bliss. Bennifer, anybody?
