Did Russell Simmons Just Successfully End the Beef Between Meek Mill and The Game?
The Game declared war on Meek Mill, with each emcee taking turns firing shots at one other, both on their diss tracks and in digital spaces alike.
While it appeared as though Game simply wanted to challenge Meek Mill to a good ol' fashioned fist fight, things quickly escalated and fans were anxious that the rap beef would go too far this time.
Today (September 22) Russell Simmons has come forward to speak on the matter, saying that he decided to take matters into his own hands and attempt to help facilitate the two in reconciling.
In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, the media mogul and philanthropist shared that he spoke with both Meek Mill and Game separately and that both agreed to meet with each other in person to maturely make amends.
“[Meek Mill and Game] haven’t agreed to agree on everything,” Simmons said. “They’ve just agreed to stop public beef and they agreed to have a meeting.”
Simmons also said that his main interest is that he’s “just trying to save people” and felt compelled to get involved.
“It’s a volatile situation,” Simmons elaborated. “I guess everyone has a [reputation] to protect. I just want to save their lives.”
As the conversation continued, Simmons also touched on his experience being a mediator in past situations, offering that usually when things get out of hand, it doesn’t always directly impact the original source of tension.
“Usually it’s not one of [the artists embroiled in turmoil] that gets killed,” he explained. “It’s one of their friends. Both of them agree that all of it is worthless. They both agreed that it’s not gonna lead nowhere good. They’d like to put it behind them. Neither one of them would like to put it behind them before the other, but when they both agreed through me, it made it a little easier. I’ve done this 100 times. I’ve done this so many times behind the scenes without social media years ago, and even more recently behind the scenes.”
With someone as respected as Russell Simmons stepping in, hopefully Meek Mill and Game will listen to his wise words and take his advice to squash the beef once and for all.
