Casting News: Wood Harris, T.I. Board Ant-Man; NWA Biopic Adds Two
Two high-profile projects have added some exciting talent to their casts this week. T.I. and Wood Harris will co-star in Marvel's newest franchise Ant-Man, opposite Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.
No word on what roles the actors will play in the film, whose title character possesses the ability to shrink in size but increase his strength. This is a promising move for T.I.'s budding acting career, however. The rapper had a small-but-significant role in last year's comedy Identity Theft and also made a guest appearance on the Don Cheadle cable comedy House of Lies.
Meanwhile, the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton has added more talent to its cast. Oscar nominee Paul Giamatti has signed on to play the group's controversial manager and Ruthless Records co-founder Jerry Heller.
Heller co-founded the label with Eazy-E and signed and managed NWA, overseeing their rise. However, when the band broke up after Ice Cube and Dr. Dre's departures, Heller was blamed as the cause of the group's disbandment and for mishandling funds.
Carra Patterson, a relative newcomer who had minor roles in Why Did I Get Married Too? and Gun Hill Road, has also been added as Eazy's widow Tomica Woods-Wright. The real Tomica inherited the late rapper's share of music rights and is also a producer on Straight Outta Compton, along with Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Will Packer.
