'House of Payne:' Father-Son Drama and Dinner Shenanigans: Malik's Vegan Confession and Calvin’s Tutoring Struggles

Calvin’s attempt to tutor Jr. in math leads to father-son clashes, while Malik’s dinner with a supposedly vegan councilman takes an unexpected turn.

Episode 1105 kicks off with Calvin and Jr. bonding over video games. It's nice to see them getting along, but, as expected, things quickly unravel. After Jr. beats Calvin in the game, Calvin gets a call from Jr.'s school informing him that his son has not only failed a couple of math quizzes but also been suspended. Naturally, Jr. hadn't mentioned any of this to his dad. Now Calvin's on a mission to get his son back on track, and surprisingly, Jr. is open to the idea of being tutored by his dad.

In other news, Malik has accepted a position working for Councilman Dustman and invites him over for dinner. As always, the Paynes bring their unique energy, and Malik is stressed out, wanting everything to go perfectly. To make matters more interesting, the councilman is a vegan.

Back to Calvin and Jr., their tutoring session quickly turns into a clash. Just as tensions rise, Peanut stops by and gives both of them a much-needed break. Steps, who's great with math, urges Calvin to be more patient and even steps in to help Jr. tackle his math problems. Jr. starts feeling confident enough to retake his quizzes, but when he only scores a 68, he's frustrated all over again. After some time alone, Ella and Curtis arrive, offering Calvin advice and reminding him not to give up. The takeaway? Mistakes are part of the learning process, and Calvin needs to encourage Jr. without making him feel worse.

Ella delivers the line of the night: “Don’t be a dictator, be his dad.”

Father and son eventually find their rhythm again, and things settle down.

Meanwhile, over at CJ's, dinner is in full swing. Janine has prepared a delicious spread of tofu and vegan tacos—a far cry from the Paynes' usual fare. Surprisingly, everyone agrees that the meal is good. The councilman is shocked to see such a healthy, vegan meal at their table and admits he's been craving ribs or pork chops. Here's the twist: it turns out the councilman's campaign manager had advised him to claim he was vegan because it polls better with voters.

That revelation encourages Malik to come clean about his own pretense. The family breathes a collective sigh of relief, and the councilman appreciates Malik’s honesty. The lesson? Sometimes the best thing you can be is yourself.

The next episode begins with Malik hiring Lisa to be his assistant in his role with the councilman, hoping to help her build a resume with skills other than dancing. However, tension soon arises between the two. CJ steps in with some sage advice, warning them that working together can sometimes strain a relationship and spill over into their home life. Later, Lisa takes on a gig helping Janine but quickly finds herself frustrated and quits halfway through the day.

In the end, Lisa has a heart-to-heart with Jazmine, who convinces her to apologize for bailing on Janine and embrace her knack for management. By the episode’s close, Lisa makes amends with Janine and starts to see her own potential.
