People Get Slammed For Calling LeBron Racist For Saying He Had To Adjust To His White High School
In LeBron James’ new HBO show, The Shop, the NBA star had an honest conversation about his first interactions with white people.
In the first episode of the show, which premiered on Tuesday, LeBron was joined by stars, including Jon Stewart, Vince Staples, Jerrod Carmichael, and others. In The Shop, the honest and raw conversations held in Black barbershops are brought to the mainstream.
On one moment that went viral, James talked about attending an exclusive, private Catholic high school in Akron, Ohio.
LeBron began by honestly discussing his resistance to getting to know his white peers
“When I first went to the 9th grade in high school, I was on some ‘I’m not f***ing with white people,’” James says. “I was so institutionalized growing up in the hood it was like, ‘They don’t fuck with us, they don’t want us to succeed,'" James said.
The Ohio native then went on to explain how his view changed, he let his guard down, and eventually became friends with the people at his school.
Maverick Carter, James' business partner and hometown best friend, said by the end of the year, LeBron and his white friends were coming to the same parties back in the hood.
Once the clip went viral, it was wildly taken out of context by people who love to yell "reverse racism"
Yet, those people were quickly called out for twisting LeBron's honesty into prejudice
