Prince: Not a ‘Surfer’ and Not a ‘Gleek’
Could you ever see Prince sitting on his purple velvet sofa cracking up and singing to the songs on the television show “Glee?” Exactly. Neither can he. You won’t catch him surfing the web either. You may not even see him on the phone let alone hear his ringtone. Is that possible? According to an interview with Guardian.co.uk it is.
"Ringtones!” he exclaims. “Have you ever been in a room where there's 17 ringtones going off at once? I don't have a phone." He must get a lot of unexpected visitors. As for “Glee” the hit ‘cover singing’ television show: Brilliant idea? Not. "There's no other art form where you can do that,” he says. “You can't go and do your own version of "Harry Potter." Do you want to hear somebody else sing "Kiss?""
And anothet thing. "I personally can't stand digital music," says Prince. "You're getting sound in bits. It affects a different place in your brain. When you play it back, you can't feel anything. We're analogue people, not digital." Once at war with his record label, now his opponents are people selling or sharing music on the web. "The industry changed," he says. "We made money [online] before piracy was real crazy. There's no boundaries. So I'll just hold off on recording." No new music from Prince? Now that gets a big thumbs down.
