Cat Glover, Iconic Performer Who Collaborated with Prince, Passes Away at 60
Cat Glover, a renowned singer, dancer, and choreographer who collaborated closely with Prince during his peak in the late 1980s, passed away at 60.
Her death was announced on her official Facebook page last night (Sept. 24). “It’s with great sadness that we formally announce the passing of Catherine Vernice Glover- Aka ‘Cat.’ Please allow her children, family, and friends privacy at this difficult time.” No cause of death was given, and other details were not disclosed, but the message states that “a further statement will be released in due course.” It concluded, “‘Dance with the Angels, we love you.’”
Born in Chicago, Glover started dancing at age 5 and gained recognition on “Star Search” as part of the dance duo with Patrick Allen in 1986. Glover later became famous for her work with Prince as a dancer and backing vocalist on his Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy tours, where she rapped on tracks like "Cindy C." from The Black Album and "Alphabet St." Her dynamic performances also featured in several music videos tied to these albums, as well as in the iconic 1987 concert film "Sign o' the Times."
After leaving Prince's camp, Glover continued to perform and choreograph, later reflecting on their close bond. She was known to have chosen Prince over an offer from David Bowie, which cemented her legacy within his world. “I first heard about Prince after his album, Dirty Mind. I was living on my own on the North Side of Chicago,” Glover told the Chicago Crusader in a 2016 interview. “The only thing that got me through my depression from everything was listening to Prince’s album, Dirty Mind. I knew I had to meet him. That was me talking to my inner self.”
